Pamela Cantatore is an architect and lighting designer.

Born in 1983 in Bari, Puglia, she first studied architecture at the Politecnico di Bari.

Upon graduating in 2009 with her thesis on the refurbishment of the hotel Dajti in Albania, she moved to Milan in order to specialise in hotel design at the Poli.design, and attended the advanced masterclass “Hotel Experience Design”.

Soon after, she began collaborating with the Milan based firm Studio Rossi Cattaneo architects; supervising hotel design worldwide, including projects in Russia, Japan, Switzerland and Italy.

In 2010 she transitioned into the world of light, earning a Master’s Degree in Lighting Design at the Sapienza University of Rome.

Upon completion of her Master’s she began to collaborate with the lighting designer A.J Weissbard on large-scale projects at the Piccolo Theatre in Milan, the San Carlo opera house in Naples, the Venaria Reale palace of Turin, the Spoleto Festival, the Royal Opera House of Oman, and the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.

The technical, artistic and professional experience she gained at an international level in opera, theatre and exhibition has greatly influenced her career.

She collaborated with Studio Susana Antico realising urban lighting plans in Belgium and continues to work as a freelance architect and lighting designer for theatrical, exhibition and architectural projects.

Pamela collaborated actively with AJ Weissbard as assistant light designer for Luca Ronconi’s productions at the Piccolo Theatre of Milan and at Petruzzelli Theatre in Bari,

She’s also worked on educational projects. In 2014 she created and taught a course in Lighting Designer for the  Puglia Region of southern Italy, involving other industry professionals to offer a broad introduction to the discipline.

At the Spoleto Festival in 2013 she designs the lighting for “Pornografia”, a Luca Ronconi production.

In February 2014, she work with the young director Fabio Ceresa for the lighting of Madama Butterfly opera by Puccini at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Theatre.

She was also associate lighting designer for “Armida” at Rossini Opera Festival.

In 2015 she was part of the creative team for the opening of Armani/Silos museum in Milan.

In 2016 she was involved in a lighting design project in Italy for a XVII century castle near Turin (Parella Castle), for both interior and landscaping lighting design.

In 2016 she founded Spazio A, an architectural firm in Puglia: a group of two engineers and one architect, they deal with different projects including, interior design, hotel experience design, and lighting design.

Today she resides in Muscat (Oman) with her family, travelling between Italy and Oman, continuing to pursue her career in lighting design for Theatre and Architecture.
